98 vw golf k2 edition, 5spd - $1300 Good idea?

i have a 98 GTi, so basically the same thing but a vr6. It looks like the previous owner did a lot of work on it. In my opinion its best to buy a car which is "unmolested" as in it has just had maintenance done to it and that is all. If you know about cars and enjoy working on them, it sounds great. With a vw, especially an old one, you need to be weary of automatic transmissions. This one has a 5 speed so you are set. My GTi has 239,000 miles on it and haven't had to do anything major to it...
